Y’know, I now have a new-found respect for Takeru Kobayashi. In 2009, the Japanese speed-eating champ downed 64.5 hotdogs in 12 minutes–and finished second in the Nathan’s Contest. Alas, when faced with the task of eating 67 sliders in a day, I pulled up somewhere around the halfway mark. Sure, I could’ve soldiered on, but when it got to the point where I couldn’t taste the otherwise delicious beef I was putting into my mouth, I knew it was probably time to stop. Incidentally, this occurred while I was eating The Caledonian’s haggis burger. Because you have to numb your taste buds in order to eat haggis. (Actually, I had it last year, and it was quite good. Did I mention I’m half Scottish?)
Of course, the burger gods changed the format of this year’s event. At Burger Day 2012, you purchased burger tickets at three bucks a piece. This year, it was all-you-can-eat for 30 bucks. Had I consumed this many sliders last year, I might well have dropped 100 bucks on beef. Which isn’t as awesome as it sounds when you’re semi-comatose afterwards, but hey, it was the good kind of coma.
Anyways, as I pounded patty after patty into my piehole, I became increasingly unable to keep track of each delicious offering. Thus, instead of offering a blow-by-blow review, I’ve created this tasty photo collage using my mad MS Paint skillz. Enjoy!
(Hey, how’d that taco get in there!?)
